Capital Campaign to raise $350,000

for  a  V I S I T O R  &  I N F O R M A T I O N  C E N T E R

The 1951 Chapel/Office at the Market Street entrance of Riverview Cemetery sits

on the site of the original Superintendent’s home. It has been non-functional since 2000 and was uninhabitable when FHRC assumed ownership in 2009. The Board

of Directors, volunteers, pro bono partners, and paid contractors have been caring

for the building and fixing problems that are preliminary to the major phase of

renovation. The Friends of Historic Riverview Cemetery want to raise $350,000 to convert the building into a VISITOR and INFORMATION CENTER.

The renovation will include:

A MULTI-PURPOSE SPACE

for families who need a place to meet before or after a burial. At present there is no indoor gathering space, running water or toilet facilities to provide comfort or shelter. This space will support visitors who come for special events and tour groups visiting the cemetery. It will also provide an opportunity for groups of volunteers to contribute their clerical skills to a variety of tasks.
A SMALL OFFICE
to allow board members to conduct cemetery business with the public. Currently all meetings are held outdoors by appointment.
A SPACE FOR DOCUMENT STORAGE
related to cemetery history, operations, and maintenance.
BASEMENT LEVEL STORAGE
for supplies, tools, and materials needed for outdoor volunteer projects and burial preparations.
