Board Recruitment Committee:

Chapel Committee:

     The Board of Directors toured the chapel on February 15 with a dozen individuals having a broad range of talent and contacts. Jeff and Anne Younger of Younger 2 Inc. will provide leadership during this evaluation and planning phase. National Historic Register Committee:

     Cheryl continues her research and hopes to prepare the application by June 2009. If you have experience with this process, please contact Cheryl at cheshannon@aol.com or call (302) 239-7842


Interment Committee:

     Lee Anderson is assisting families who are seeking to place a headstone, purchase a plot, or arrange for a burial. If you would like to assist families with these final arrangements please contact Lee at drleeanderson@aol.com or call (610) 388-1920.


Public Mausoleum Committee:

     Tedd Cocker is taking the lead on cleaning out the mausoleum. Kate Wilhere is pursing the insurance claim for the stolen doors, broken stain glass windows, and damaged marble. If you would like to help with clean-up please contact Tedd at teece62@comcast.net or call (302) 838 1338.


Landscaping Committee:

     Have you ever noticed the daylilies that bloom in the summer along the fence on the West side next to the Resurrection Center? These were planted by people at the church and it adds beauty to Riverview Cemetery. There are even more fences with no perennials. If you have a green thumb and some imagination, please contact Kate Wilhere at kwilhere@aol.com or call (302) 762-4116


Special Thanks This Month To:

  • Brad Pope and his son, Micah, provided the hardware and installed New Ownership signs at three entrances to the cemetery. Thanks for braving the cold. As a result of these signs more people are offering their help.

  • Mary King has joined the FHRC board and is serving as Secretary. Mary has been volunteering at Riverview since 1998. She is often working behind the scenes. We are grateful for your leadership.

  • Adam Zewe of the Community News wrote an article about the transfer of ownership. This paper has a wide circulation in print and online. Thank you for the good exposure of our volunteer efforts to restore Riverview.

  • Burial Transcription committee members, Richard Sutor, Floyd Weber, and Walt Mateja are making excellent progress on our computer database of burials. The years 1901 to 2003 have been completed.

  • Carole McKinney volunteered to be the beverage coordinator for the Tree Planting Event on March 21. If you have beverages to share please contact her at carole.mckinney@state.de.us or (302) 762-7337

  • Richard Julian from McMullen Square joined us for the chapel tour and intends to participate in the restoration project. Thanks neighbor!

  • Tedd Cocker took an inventory of all of the items left in the chapel. And, he has a list of over 200 individuals buried from 2003 until 2008. Thanks for your great data collection skills.

  • Kash Srinivasan, Commissioner of Public Works, Kara Coats, Senior Assistant City Solicitor, and David Beattie, Project Manager met with FHRC officers to discuss the best approach to the storm water run off fees.

  • Patrice Sheehan, Tree Manager, worked with Lee and Cheryl to mark the location for 40 new trees at Riverview on the East side. Marcia Stephenson, special events coordinator, has been recruiting 100 volunteers.

  • Owners of Funeral Homes, Vault & Memorial Companies, and Cemeteries have contacted the FHRC board with messages of support, encouragement, and gratitude for this new chapter in the history of Riverview Cemetery.

  • YOU, our FHRC members who continue to offer your time, talents. Thank you for joining this effort to restore and preserve Riverview Cemetery. And, thank you for asking your friends and relatives to do the same.
