Special Thanks This Month To:
- Jay Graf (www.geo-graf.com) from Geotechnical Engineering in West Chester, PA used ground penetrating radar to scan the baby section for graves and markers. Thanks for the donation of your time, equipment, and expertise. News Journal photographer, Robert Craig, reporter, Terri Sanginiti, covered the story. Many thanks to editor, Tim Konski as well.
- Seventeen volunteer spent 3 hours on September 5 (Labor Day weekend), cleaning tree branches, vines, and debris along the Speakman fence line. The area is now ready for volunteer welders to make the repairs.
- Jim Herman and a crew from the Plummer & Webb Center joined us for the September Clean-Up Day and filled holes in cemetery with dirt.
- Francie Chalfant, (www.botanicalsplash.com) owner of Botanical Splash has volunteered to make the holiday grave blankets and wreaths.
- A Tree Management Grant, written by Lee Anderson, was awarded by the Delaware Urban and Community Forestry Council. John Kerns will partner with FHRC to create a Master Tree Inventory of all the trees at Riverview and a multi-year Tree Management Plan for their care.
- Friends and families are buying T-shirts! Order yours today!
- Wilmington City Police continue to monitor the cemetery. We greatly appreciate the regular patrols throughout the East and West side.
- Plummer Center (PCC) crews cut grass twice on the East & West sides. Many thanks to Eastlawn Civic Association President, Sandra Lowry, who sponsored the September pizza lunch for 25 men. She routinely picks up debris outside the fence and is a great neighbor to Riverview Cemetery.
- Floyd Weber is transcribing the final two interment books of 5000 names, dedicated to a section of the cemetery known as “potter’s field”. Original owners of Riverview planned for a dignified final resting place for all.
- Board members assisted families, vault companies, and funeral homes with two interments in September.
- To all volunteers who contribute, time, energy, skills, and financial gifts to the restoration of Riverview Cemetery and the surrounding community… Thank you!
