Black History Month:

In recognition of Black History Month, we recognized "Manzy Leroy Burnette" who was born in Wilmington in 1931; attended Howard High School; served as the first African-American tail-gunner for the U.S. Air Force on a B-52 bomber; was enlisted in the military for ten years and served in the Korean War. Following his service he worked for the Speakman Company for 28 years.

Architect Needed:

To help with the interior design of our new chapel/office/multi-purpose building. This person should be knowledgeable in meeting the code requirements as well as maintaining the historical integrity of the building. We are a 501c/3 non-profit with limited funding capabilities and will welcome someone who can donate services.

Lawn Equipment Fundraiser:

Approximately $800 has been raised through T-shirt and holiday green sales. Kate Wilhere completed a DCF grant application and Lee Anderson completed the grant application from the Delaware Cemetery Board Fund for Distressed Cemeteries.

Chapel Building:

The interior workday for FHRC Board members and a crew from the Plummer Center is planned for Friday February 5. Look for more updates on the exterior projects next month.

Fact of Interest:

In its first year of ownership, FHRC has invested $22,000 in an endowment fund with DCF. Fifty percent of all burial fees and memberships at the $300 level and above are deposited in this fund.

Special Thanks in January To:

  • Many thanks to 19 brave souls who came out in freezing cold weather and together gave 53 hours removing holiday decorations on January 30. "Terri Sanginiti" from the News Journal placed a notice in the Saturday morning paper and made folks aware of the community service opportunity.

  • Brian Bachman, owner of Graydie Welding continues to design custom floor vents and exterior vents for the public mausoleum. Please visit his website www.graydiewelding.com and support his business.

  • Jay Graf provided a helpful written report and analysis of his work from September in the baby section. Volunteers will be needed in the spring to uncover 53 underground memorial markers. Visit: www.geo-graf.com.

  • Board members assisted families, vault companies, and funeral homes with three interments in January.
