Daffodils for Easter:

This year we suggest that you place daffodils on the graves of your loved ones. During our volunteer day on April 17 we will collect the flowers and recycle these plants inside the Market Street fence to add beauty year after year to this major city corridor.

SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Service at Riverview on April 11th:

This church incorporated in 1927 and has 173 members buried at Riverview Cemetery. The priest and choir will meet on the West side around 11:00 and participate in the Holy Pascha service recognizing the resurrection of Christ. At the end of the service, those worshipping visit their member’s grave site, say a prayer and leave a flower.

Architect Needed:

To help with the interior design of our new chapel/office/multi-purpose building. This person should be knowledgeable in meeting the code requirements as well as maintaining the historical integrity of the building. We are a 501c/3 non-profit with limited funding capabilities and will welcome someone who can donate services.

Lawn Equipment Fundraiser:

Donations are still needed. Grass cutting season starts soon.

Chapel Building:

Approximately 3 Tons of trash and debris was removed from inside the chapel/office on Friday February 5 by a strong and efficient crew of six men from the PCC. All FHRC Board members assisted with this 61 hour project. Exterior projects will begin when the ground has thawed.

Public Mausoleum:

The new door was ready in February and excessive snow has prevented the installation. A dedication of the doors is planned for March 27. Come join us and learn about this historical structure.

Request for Photos:

We are hearing many stories about the early days at Riverview. If you grew up in the neighborhood or visited the graves of your family we would love to see your old photos.

Board Members:

To learn more contact Lee at drleeanderson@aol.com or 610-388-1920. The FHRC Board meets on the 2nd Friday from 10 to 12.

Veteran Database:

Information about our veterans is posted on the website thanks to the efforts of Tedd and Russ. Flags will be placed on the graves by cub scouts prior to Memorial Day. If you know a veteran, help us add their name to our inventory.

www.timestonepress.com:

You may visit this website and use Pay Pal to purchase a copy of “Riverview Cemetery: Reading the Stones - A Collection of Memories from the First State”. The book will be signed by author & publisher, Lee Anderson, and mailed to you. It makes a great gift and supports our restoration efforts at the cemetery.

Fact of Interest:

In its first year of ownership, the FHRC board, members and friends, and special groups contributed approximately 20,000 hours of volunteer time to many projects. Thank you for your labor of love!

Special Thanks in January To:

  • Many thanks to Cpl. Ewasko, Sgt. Wassum, and Lt. Hansen who supported the clean-out of the chapel along with a crew of six men.

  • Judy Lane, one of our new volunteers, found a way to help during these snowy winter months. She is repairing and refinishing 12 chairs from the chapel/office building. Thanks for your gift of time and talent. We are grateful that these chairs can be preserved and used again.

  • P.J. Hernandez, from the City of Wilmington Mapping and Graphics Department, secured a map to show when Riverview Cemetery was annexed by the city. His enthusiasm and generosity is much appreciated.

  • Board members assisted families, vault companies, and funeral homes with one interment in February and prepared for a burial on March 1.
