Public Mausoleum Donations:

You may designate your donations to FHRC for special projects including repair of the interior white marble. Thirty-two people attended the March 27 Dedication of the Door program and learned about the history of Riverview’s unique public mausoleum; we believe it to be the first and oldest mausoleum in Delaware.

Daffodils for Easter:

This year we suggest placing daffodils on the graves of your loved ones. During our volunteer day on April 17 we will collect the flowers and recycle these plants inside the Market Street fence to add beauty year after year to this major city corridor.

SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Service at Riverview on April 11th:

Incorporated in 1927 with at least 173 members buried at Riverview Cemetery, the priest, choir, and church members will meet on the West side around 11:30 to participate in the Holy Pascha service.

Arbor Day April 9, 2010:

We are the grateful recipients of professional tree care services for the third consecutive year. Kerns Brothers Tree Service along with Rickerman Tree Service and Bob’s Crane Service are scheduled to work on the trees - an important part of our preservation plan. Other companies who join the effort will be recognized next month. FHRC volunteers will provide lunch and board members will be on site all day.

Lawn Equipment Fundraiser:

Donations are still needed. All funds from T-shirt sales will be used to purchase new equipment. T-shirts are available at all FHRC events and can also be ordered by mail. Just send your $20 check, select a size (M, L, XL), and your address. The shirts will be mailed to you at no extra cost.

Chapel Building:

Exterior work will start in April when the ground is dry.

Architect Needed:

To help with the interior design of our new chapel, office, multi-purpose building.

Request for Photos:

If you grew up in the neighborhood or visited the graves of your family, please share your photos of the cemetery with us.

Board Members:

To learn more contact Lee at drleeanderson@aol.com or 610-388-1920. The FHRC Board meets on the 2nd Friday from 10 to 12.

Veteran Database:

Flags will be placed on the graves by cub scouts prior to Memorial Day. Our inventory shows approximately 800 Veterans.

www.timestonepress.com:

You may visit this website and use Pay Pal to purchase a copy of “Riverview Cemetery: Reading the Stones - A Collection of Memories from the First State”. The book will be signed by author & publisher, Lee Anderson, and mailed to you. It makes a great gift and supports our restoration efforts at the cemetery.

Special Thanks in March To:

  • Frank Mayer, III, President of Delaware Funeral Directors Association distributed FHRC brochures and the March Newsletter at the annual convention in Dover.

  • First District Planning Council arranged to have the daylily beds along 33rd Street cleaned up for the next growing season and to control weeds from inside the fence line. Thanks to Grass Cutters Co. for their good work.

  • Cpl. Ewasko removed torn flags after the rope snapped during severe winds in March. News flags will be needed prior to Memorial Day

  • Many thanks to PCC for removing snow at the Market Street entrance in preparation for a burial service in Section A.

  • Joe Lange from Lange Construction Company installed the doors and transome on the public mausoleum and P&C Roofing Company completed the roof inspection.

  • Terri Sanginiti did it again! She made the public aware of our Mausoleum Door Dedication with a story in the News Journal. Brad Glazier took photographs for a future story recognizing the growth of our endowment fund at DCF; and filming by Walt Mateja continues to document the many restoration projects under the leadership of FHRC.

  • Board members assisted families, vault companies, and funeral homes with three interments in March.
