Genealogical Assistance:
A benefit of your membership is free genealogical assistance. Members and Non-members can find an “Information Request” form on the website and at the end of the newsletter. Print the form, complete it, and mail it to FHRC. If you are a non-member include a $25.00 payment per surname or you may join FHRC ($30 minimal) and mail your membership fee with the form. A board member will assist you in a timely manner.
Placement of Memorial Markers:
When FHRC assumed ownership of Riverview Cemetery on January 30, 2009, we began to place temporary markers with name and birth/death dates on the graves of those buried under our leadership. To ensure proper installation of any permanent grave markers (flat and upright) please contact a professional monument company and ask for the installation to be approved by the FHRC Board. The permit fee is $75.00 for each marker or monument - payable to FHRC prior to installation.
Baby Section: New Perennial Garden:
FHRC member, Judy Lane, prepared an 8 foot by 100 foot perennial garden in time for our June 19 volunteer day with the assistance of Woody Chambers from Chambers Landscaping & Lawncare Inc. And, FHRC member, Jeff Pollack straightened the fence and eight volunteers planted flower bulbs that were collected from graves after the Easter holiday. More bulbs will be added in the future as our way of adding beauty through recycling.
Daylilies along Washington Street:
We are at the halfway point thanks to the energy of 12 volunteers who weeded, planted, and mulched on a very hot summer day. We will return to this project on July 17. Thanks to John and Susan Kerns for donating 1000 gallons of water the day before to make our task a little easier. Please do a “rain dance” the night before our July planting. And, when you visit Riverview, keep a gallon jug of water in your car and give the flowers a drink.
Multi-Purpose Building (Chapel/Office):
A six man crew and supervisor from the Plummer/Webb Correction Center, along with FHRC Board members, Kate and Tedd, completed a dark, dirty, and wet job in the basement so that the city of Wilmington could remove a large pile of trash & debris that had been floating in water for many years.
Cemetery Roads:
Riverview Cemetery has over 4 miles of narrow roads that are in need of re-surfacing. We are seeking asphalt company owners willing to donate labor and materials to repair the roads.
Memorial Day:
If you would like to serve on the committee for the 2011 event please contact Lee Anderson now. Preparations will start early.
